Fed: National response to NSW horse flu outbreak
Federal Agriculture Minister PETER McGAURAN says state and territory veterinary officials
will meet today .. to co-ordinate the response to the the outbreak of equine influenza
in 11 horses stabled at Sydney's Centennial Park.
He says Australia has never had equine influenza .. and if it escapes from Centennial
Park it will have a devastating effect.
Mr McGAURAN has told Sky News the infection is NOT harmful to humans .. but can be
spread by humans.
He says it's not yet known whether a vaccination is available.
Mr McGAURAN says all horse movements be restricted in New South Wales .. and there'll
be no racing today.
